Happy New Year, guys! I hope 2019 is treating you well so far. I had a glorious two weeks off and now it’s back to real life. I love the sense of renewed energy January brings, so I thought it was the perfect time to talk about how I’m getting organized to tackle projects for the year ahead, and one really important resolution I want to implement: finding joy in slow decorating. Here’s why…

Last year at this time, we had moved into our new house just six months earlier, and had so much to do. So, I created a set of goals by month, with lofty plans for projects we would complete. But I had forgotten something really important: the joy of the hunt. By making decorating my home a list of To Dos, I was at risk of eliminating what I love most about it.

This year, I plan to make the same set of goals by month, but instead of putting pressure on myself to complete them, I’m going to use them as gentle reminders, and just enjoy the journey. After all, I love decorating almost as much as I love spending time in the finished spaces.

Even though I didn’t cross off all my To Dos last year, I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished. Our home truly feels like a reflection of my husband and I. It’s certainly a long way from being finished, and that’s just the way I like it. I want space for our home to grow and evolve with us as we live in it. Here’s to a year of slow decorating.
